Conscious Water Consumption – Flourishing with Thrivve

Water is essential for life. We only need to read about explorations to planets such as Mars to realise that – researchers and scientists are all looking for the presence of water on the Red Planet, because it supports life. Without water, there would be no life.

Between 50-60% of the human body is water. We need it to help keep our body temperature constant, to transport nutrients around the body in the blood and to eliminate waste products in the urine. If we don’t stay well-hydrated, we’ll suffer headaches, a dry mouth, dizziness, tiredness and an inability to concentrate, making everyday life more difficult. Severe dehydration can lead to decreased blood pressure and falling unconscious.

Drinking for good health doesn’t mean guzzling litres in one go. The ancient Indian medicine practice of Ayurveda, which is still followed today, says that we should sip room temperature water throughout the day to make sure our body absorbs it properly.

The Environmental Importance of Drinking Water Mindfully

Staying hydrated is important, but just as important is being mindful of our impact on the environment. It’s become all too easy to fulfil our need for ‘eight glasses of water a day’ by purchasing plastic bottles of water that are highly damaging to the environment.

We still don’t know how long it takes for plastic to truly degrade. Some estimate it takes 400 years, some say over 1,000. Either way, what we do know is that every single piece of plastic ever produced, still exists in some form or another. Be that in the long-term use plastic items in our homes, repurposed into something else made of plastic, languishing in landfill or broken down into microplastics, feeding unsuspecting sea life in our oceans.

So as conscious individuals, drinking water from single-use plastic bottles is a big no-no. There’s no question, plastic bottles harm the environment. But plastic also contains chemicals such as BPA that are potentially harmful to human health. BPA, which can leach into liquids, is linked with hormone disruption.

Hello, Thrivve

Motivated by realising that my own impact on the environment was dictated by horrendous levels of 21st century plastic consumption, I started carrying a reusable water bottle.

This not only made me more conscious of my environmental impact, but I began actively paying more attention to how much water I was drinking. This led to better energy, skin and sleep, all just by sipping more water each day!

So, Thrivve was born! We’re a team of three who’ve been on a mission since 2017 to design and develop a new type of reusable water bottle. Powered by technology, it will get us all drinking water better and reduce our reliance on single-use plastic water bottles.

At Thrivve, we focus on drinking water mindfully and respectfully. We want to minimise water wastage and reduce plastic consumption, at the same time as staying hydrated for a positive impact on our health. And we want to inspire others to do the same.

We believe that knowledge is the power to unlock the benefits of conscious living, and that it’s an ongoing and exciting journey.
